Principate of Chateau-Regnault

The principality, in fact, was a castle in the Ardennes, on the border of the Netherlands, France and the Holy Roman Empire. Naturally, his lords preferred not to depend on those from anyone.
In 1570, the castle, as a dowry for a marriage, was given to Henry de Guise, which made there the mint. Of the principalities own coins, only double denier is known, but the local mint became "famous" for faking French coins, which brought considerable income to its owners. In 1629, Cardinal Richelieu got tired of this and he forced the daughter of Henry de Guise, Louise-Marguerite (the owner of the castle and spouse of the nominal Prince Chateau-Regnault prince de Conti) to sell the castle to the French crown.
