Dauphine coins catalog with values

County of Dauphine

In 1349, Humbert II, the last Count of Albon, sold his County of Vienne to King Philip VI of France. The county was also called Dauphine - after the figure of a dolphin in the coat of arms (where it came from in the coat of arms of the county from which the nearest sea is at least 300 km is a great mystery). The county was given into the possession of Philip VI's grandson Charles (the future Charles V), after which all direct heirs to the French throne, according to tradition, became the "Dauphines of Vienne."
According to the terms of the sale, the county had to remain independent, which, naturally, was not very respected, as indirectly evidenced by the fact that county coins were minted in the name of the kings of France, and not in the name of the current Dauphin.
