Theobald IV (king of Navarre Theobald I since 1234) (1201-1253)

It is a rare case when the years of his life coincide with the years of his reign. Thibault was born after the death of his father, the previous count Thibault III. Until 1222 his mother Blanca, daughter of King Sancho VI of Navarre, was regent.
In 1226, Thibault participated in the Albigoy Crusade. At the siege of Avignon, the count left the army, and it is rumored that he tried to poison Louis VIII because of his love for the king's wife Blanca of Castile. Whether this was true or not, but after a while the king really died, and Thibault was not invited to the coronation of Louis IX.
Nevertheless, he did not support the revolt of the feudal lords against the new king, and after a while he became such an influential person at court (with the support of the queen, so perhaps the rumors of their connection were not unfounded) that in 1229 the revolt was raised directly against Thibault. Later, he had to defend himself against the king, who, understandably, did not feel friendly to the count. The invasion of Champagne was stopped only by ceding several small counties to the king.
In 1234 Thibault inherited the crown of Navarre after his childless uncle Sancho VII.
In 1239 he participated in the Seventh Crusade.
He died in Pamplona at the age of 52.
Tibo was an outstanding poet, which is why he was called a troubadour. He wrote several major works and many songs and poems of both love and religious content.
