Duchy of Boisbelle and Henrichemont

The duchy was formed by the purchase of lands Boisbelle and Sully, the famous associate of Henry IV, Maximilien de Bethune, better known as the Duke of Sully. The second part of the name of the duchy comes from the name of its capital, built by Maximilien in honor of the king. The independent existence of the duchy ended only in 1766, when the king exchanged it from the descendants of Sully for other lands, much more extensive, but with the condition of giving up sovereignty.
