The Monetary Union of Central African States unites mainly former French colonies in Central Africa - Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea (the only non-French-speaking country). They use a single currency, the CFA franc (Communaute financiere africaine - African Financial Community). Coins began to be minted in 1973. A similar currency (but of a different design) is used by the countries of former French West Africa.
