Central African Republic coins catalog

Central African Republic

The French occupied the territory of CAR from 1889-1900. Small French detachments infiltrated there from the Congo and made agreements with local chiefs. In 1894, the current territory of CAR was named Ubangi-Shari.

From 1947 to 1958, the colony of Ubangi-Shari was an overseas territory of France.
In 1958, the Central African Republic (CAR) was formed and became an autonomous state within the French Community.
On August 13, 1960, the independence of the CAR was proclaimed.

CAR used Central African CFA franc.
