Tassorolo coins catalog

County of Tassorolo

Tassarolo is a castle on the course between Savoy, Monferrato and Genoa.
On November 20, 1532 Charles V granted investiture to the Spinola family (one of the influential Genoese families). On May 30, 1560 Emperor Ferdinand I elevated the feudal domain to the rank of imperial county.
In 1736, the county became part of the Duchy of Savoy, but retained its autonomy.
On October 10, 1818 the county was included in the Kingdom of Sardinia.

In 1560 the privilege of minting coins was obtained from the Emperor, but only Count Agostino Spinolo (1604-1616) and his nephew and heir Filippo (1616-1688) used it, and the most common coins of the latter - luigino were minted in the name of his wife Livia Centurione Oltremarine and were intended for trade in the Levant. The coin completely repeated the design of 1/12 ecu of Louis XIV (hence the name) and practically copied the coin of the same dignity of the Duchy of Domb, Duchess Anne Marie Louise of Orleans.
