Kempten coins catalog with values online

Kempten is a city in the Allgäu region (Bavaria).
The settlement arose next to the ecclesiastical diocese of Kempten, which owned numerous estates.
The diocese continued to exert great influence on Kempten even when he received the privileges of a free imperial city. Its citizens had to pay a tax to the princely abbey of Kempten.

In 1525, a peasant uprising broke out and was joined by the serfs of Kempten Abbey. The rebels plundered the monastery, the prince-abbot fled to the imperial city of Kempten. In exchange for protection and refuge, the mayor of Kempten bought his rights to the city from the abbot and Kempten became finally independent.

During the Reformation, the abbey remained Catholic, and the city became Lutheran. The rivalry between the two rival sections of Kempten intensified over the years and culminated in the 30 Years' War (1618–1648) when it came to military conflict. Both sides suffered huge losses, the abbot's residence was completely destroyed.

In 1802, as a result of mediatization, the city and the abbey were annexed to the Bavarian Electorate, which became a kingdom in 1806.

In 1818 the town and abbey were officially united to form the town of Kempten.
