Principality of Kotah (1579-1949)

Kota was a part of the Bundi Principality.

In 1631 Kota was made a separate independent principality for the second son of the ruler of Bundi, Rao Madho Singh.

In 1817, a treaty was concluded with Great Britain making Kota a British protectorate.

During the Indian Rebellion of 1857, a British resident was killed in Kota, after which the British army captured the city in an assault in March 1858.

On April 18, 1948, the Kota Maharao annexed his state to the Indian Union.
