Herbert (c. 985-1035) was the son of the previous Count Hugo III. Got a nickname because of the habit of getting up early in the morning.
He was a vassal of the Count of Anjou, but he constantly strove for independence. A feud with the lord, in 1025 led him to imprisonment, where he spent 2 years.
Almost all the time of his reign, Herbert fought with the Bishop of Le Mans (for land, naturally, from the bishop was the same lord as the other feudales) and was even once excommunicated.
Coinage with Herbert monogram began in the third decade of the XI century and lasted the entire XII century.
